  1.              INSTRUCTIONS FOR FIRE FIGHTER

  4. There has been no rain for months.  Lightning strikes
  5. throughout the area
  6. have caused fires in twenty-five forests.  Your job as fire
  7. fighter is to
  8. get to these fires before they destroy homes.
  9.  
  10. You begin in the forest the park rangers refer to as Forest
  11. #25.  To reach
  12. the next forest, you must put out all of the fires before
  13. the time runs
  14. out and save at least 50% of the houses.
  15.  
  16. You have three tools to assist you in controlling the fires:
  17. a hose,
  18. an ax, and a shovel.  The hose squirts out fires while
  19. leaving behind
  20. scorched ground that helps contain the fires since fire
  21. cannot jump over
  22. burnt sections of ground.  The ax chops down trees to clear
  23. the way so
  24. you can approach the fires. And finally, the shovel digs
  25. fire breaks to
  26. also help control the fires in that fires cannot jump over
  27. fire breaks.
  28. The forests also contain rocks that serve as natural fire
  29. breaks.

  31. You move about the forests with either a joystick or the
  32. keyboard.  See
  33. below for details on the input device you will be using.
  34.  
  35.                                    JOYSTICK
  36.  
  37. Use the control pad (arrow pad) on a game pad or the stick
  38. on a joystick
  39. to move through the forests.  Use one fire button on the
  40. joystick/game
  41. pad to activate your tool and the other button to toggle
  42. through your
  43. tools.
  44.  
  45. Your joystick/game pad will automatically be calibrated
  46. while the game
  47. is loading.  You should avoid pressing any buttons or the
  48. control pad
  49. while the program is loading because this will interfere
  50. with the
  51. calibration process and your joystick/game pad will not work
  52. properly
  53. in the game--wait for the title screen to appear.
  54.  
  55.                                    KEYBOARD
  56.  
  57. Use the arrow keys to move through the forests.  Use the
  58. space bar or
  59. enter key to activate your tool.  Use the tab key to toggle
  60. through your
  61. tools.    You can also use your mouse to select tools.
